Kuaishou Video Download Not Working? Every Error, Fixed
What each downloader message means and how to fix it: wrong links, private or deleted videos, expired buttons, failed downloads and files that won't play.
Already have a link? Paste it into the downloader and skip ahead.
Open the downloaderMost failed downloads come down to three things. The link isn’t a single public video, the video isn’t public anymore, or the download got cut off. The fastest test is to open your link in a private or incognito window. If the video won’t play there without logging in, no downloader can fetch it.
Below is every message the downloader can show, in the order you’re likely to meet them. Each one says what’s going on and what to do.
My background is Trust & Safety at Kuaishou, so where it helps, I explain why the platform behaves the way it does.
Before you press Find video
“Paste a Kuaishou or Kwai link first.”
The box was empty. On some phones, pasting fails silently when the clipboard is empty. Copy the link again in the app, then long-press the box and tap Paste.
“Your browser blocked clipboard access.”
You tapped the tool’s Paste button and the browser said no. That’s a normal privacy setting. Long-press the box and paste by hand instead.
“That does not look like a Kuaishou or Kwai link.”
The tool only accepts Kuaishou and Kwai addresses, and it checks before sending anything. You’ll see this if you pasted:
- a link from another app, such as TikTok, Douyin, Instagram or YouTube
- a short link from bit.ly or a similar service
- a Kuaishou 口令 (password) code, a string of symbols and words with no
https://. It only works inside the app. - a link cut off by a chat app
Fix: go back to the video, tap Share, then Copy link, and paste it straight in. The link formats guide shows what a valid link looks like.
After you press Find video
“This video is private or limited to followers”
The creator has limited who can watch. The tool only reads what anyone can see without an account, and it never logs in on your behalf. There’s no workaround, and that’s deliberate. If you need the video, ask the creator.
“The video could not be found”
The most common message. Usual causes:
- The creator deleted the video or their account.
- The platform took it down for breaking its rules.
- The short link is dead. A dead Kuaishou short link redirects to the homepage, and you’ll see “This short link is invalid or has expired.”
- On Kwai, you’ll see “Kwai did not return this video.” Kwai shows logged-out visitors the same page for deleted, private and region-blocked videos, so the tool can’t tell which one it is.
“This video is under review on Kuaishou and cannot be fetched yet”
New uploads, and videos someone has reported, can sit in review for a while before they go public again or come down. Try again later.
Videos limited to some countries
Creators and platforms can restrict a video to certain countries. Neither Kuaishou nor Kwai tells a logged-out visitor why a video is hidden. So a region-blocked video shows up as “not found”, not as its own error. We don’t use proxies to get around regional limits.
“This link type is not supported yet” or “This link is not a single video”
The link is from Kuaishou or Kwai, but it points at something the tool doesn’t handle:
- a creator profile, hashtag page or music page
- a live stream or live replay
- a photo slideshow (图集). You’ll see “Photo slideshows are not supported yet.”
- a shop item
If you think yours should work, send me the link.
“Too many requests right now”
One connection can look up about 10 videos a minute. That keeps the service up for everyone. On a VPN, you share an IP address with strangers, and their lookups count against yours. Turning the VPN off often fixes it.
You might also see “Kuaishou asked our server for a security check.” Kuaishou sometimes asks for a captcha when traffic looks automated. The tool never tries to solve or skip it. Wait a few minutes and try again.
“The video site took too long to answer” or “The request failed or timed out”
Something on the network is slow, either between you and us or between us and the platform. Check you’re online, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, and try again. If every link fails for hours, the platform has probably changed something. Tell me and I’ll fix it.
After you press a download button
| What happens | What to do |
|---|---|
| The button gives an error page | Buttons expire an hour after the lookup. Paste the link again for fresh ones. |
| The download stops partway | Retry on a steadier connection. Large clips take a while on mobile data. |
| The browser warns the file may be harmful | Make sure it ends in .mp4, .jpg, .webp or .m4a, then choose Keep. The tool never gives you anything else. |
| Clicking plays the video instead of saving it | Long-press or right-click the button and choose Download link or Save link as. |
| Nothing happens at all | An ad blocker or privacy extension may be blocking it. Pause it for this site. |
The file downloaded but won’t play
- It won’t open, or it’s much smaller than other copies of the same video. The download was cut off. Delete it and download again. Short clips can legitimately be under 1 MB, so size alone proves nothing.
- The “Smaller MP4” won’t play on Windows or an older Android phone. That file uses H.265 (HEVC). Play it in VLC, install Microsoft’s HEVC Video Extensions, or download the regular MP4, which uses H.264 and plays everywhere.
- It plays in one app but not another. Try VLC, which is free on every platform.
- No sound. Check your phone’s silent switch, then check whether the original post has sound.
The video looks lower quality than expected
You get the resolution the platform stores for the post. The Kuaishou posts I’ve tested were 720p, and some Kwai videos were 576 x 1024. The tool only shows 1080p or 4K buttons when the platform has those files. Some other sites show those buttons anyway, and you just get the same file in a bigger box.
Can’t find the file?
That’s a device question, not a download problem:
- iPhone: the video is in Files, not Photos
- Android: the video isn’t in the gallery
- PC and Mac: where each browser saves files
Still stuck?
Contact me with the link you tried, the exact message you saw, and your device and browser. That’s usually enough for me to reproduce it. Fixes from these reports go straight into the tool and into this page.
